Commitment to Inclusivity
It is important that students feel respected, safe, and included. I do this in my own work by implementing campus-wide initiatives, community outreach, and classroom strategies to reach those who might otherwise feel unwelcome. Drawing upon my research endeavors and work experience prior to graduate school, I will continue my commitment to empower and advance the lives of those around me. As a certified Green Dot trainer I have conducted hundreds of hours of training to undergraduates throughout the university. As a result, thousands of students at UVA are now aware of the various ways they can intervene in situations where they think someone might be in harm. I have also worked with students to implement proactive strategies that communicate the message that power-based violence is not tolerated in our community.
